 The Kyoto Animation arson attack[a] occurred at Kyoto Animation's Studio 1 building in the Fushimi ward of Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, on the morning of Thursday 18 July 2019. The arson ki (fireproof) of twenty-seven different sets of arson materials was detected by the first definitive arson detection system in the world upon the discovery of the damage, which remains unexplained by the police.  The Studio 1 building collapsed in on itself as a result of the heat wave, resulting in the devastating fire spread to the other ten floors, ruining Kyoto Animation's five studios and disfiguring twenty-seven animation workers, which are now on the floor of a nearby Tokyo Broadcasting System building.
